15-minute Pasta with Ham
This quick 15-minute recipe is perfect for those weeknights when the kids are hungry in a hurry.
Prep time: 15 minutes
Serves: 4
Ingredients
225 grams penne pasta
3 cloves garlic
2 pinches black pepper
450-gram tin peeled or pureed tomatoes
1 tsp parsley
1 ½ tbsp olive oil
4 pieces of Grandpa’s Ham or Bacon ofyour choice.
Instructions
Step 1
First bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta for 10 to 13 minutes. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water. Once cooked, drain in a colander and set aside. Toss with a splash of olive oil to avoid sticking together.
Step 2
Heat a splash of olive oil in a pan on medium heat and add garlic. Saute for 2 minutes. Add the tin of tomatoes, reserved pasta water and parsley to the pan. Mix well and let simmer for 10 minutes. Once the sauce has gotten thicker add salt and 2 pinches of black pepper.
Step 3
If using bacon, while the sauce is simmering, in a separate hot pan, cook 4 pieces of Grandpa’s Bacon until golden and crispy. Once cooled slightly, roughly chop and set aside.
Step 4
Add the pasta and the bacon (or chopped ham) to the sauce and toss so that the pasta is coated evenly. Cook for a further 2 minutes.
Step 4
Serve immediately and garnish with fresh basil and grated cheese.
